I recently started maintaining an old client's site once again, and I've got a sticky problem. The previous webmaster left me with some issues that I need to solve, and before I do I NEED to use Akeeba to take a snap shot so I can install a demo copy of the site. The problem is that it's running Joomla 1.5.15, and for some reason when I tried to upgrade Akeeba to the newest beta, it caused an unknown error - and since then I cannot install ANY version of Akeeba at all.

Is there any log or text that I could post here to get some help reinstalling Akeeba Pro? I cannot continue working on this client's site without it!

Thanks - Jeff

Also - it is possible to install any copy of Akeeba pro using 1.5.15? I'd like to back things up before i upgrade to 1.5.20.

Unknown error? There's no problem we can't solve. Make sure that Akeeba Backup doesn't appear in the list of installed extensions on your site and then you have to remove the following directories by FTP (or using the host's File Manager if FTP can't remove them):
administrator/components/com_akeeba
components/com_akeeba
media/com_akeeba

Then, follow the manual installation instructions, in case your host is slow and can't cope with the (quite big) installation package.

Akeeba Backup should install in Joomla! 1.5.15. The changes to 1.5.20 are security-related and do not cause any known incompatibility.

Indeed, there is no problem you cannot solve. Thanks, manual install worked like a charm. Now, if you guys only designed the subscription component in my client's site - perhaps it would work as well as Akeeba!

All the best to you - Jeff

You're welcome!

Regarding subscription components, nothing beats AMBRA.subs from Dioscouri. It's what we use over here and we've found that it's like soft clay to the hands of a developer. Very well written and extensible. Together with the fine guys at Freaked Out Club we have also implemented a coupon handling mod for AMBRA.subs within less than a day. I have also written and published a small mod to add EU VAT integration and checkout-style registration pages to AMBRA.subs. Overall, it is the best subscriptions solution I've come across and together with JUGA (for content access restriction) it's an unbeatable duo :)

Thanks for the extra info Nicholas - I've looked closely at Ambra for a while. Unfortunately my client does not have the resources to fill in the gaps in Ambra with custom work yet. We're currently using MightyExtensions for membership, ACL, and content, and it's been working well for us for over a year now. Sometimes I wonder if the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here...but if the next release of Ambra includes native support for recurring subscriptions - we're going to have to "fix it". :)

Mighty's support folks are 1/2 a world away from us, and Dioscouri's are in NYC. Very tempting. As is the extensibility factor. My client is always asking, "hey wouldn't it be great if our site would do this?"

Thanks to Akeeba and your solid work, I don't ever have to worry about the question "wouldn't it be great if my client's site was backed up without any effort on my part."

Best - Jeff
