I have a request for assistance.
Im unsure how the permissions work, or change with a restoration through Akeeba Pro.

I used Akeeba to back up my site, and restored it on a new server. Ive just recently added jomsocial to the site. Users are unable to upload JPEG images to the site. Other images will work, but not JPEG. Ive already checked the uploadable file types, and while Ive looked at the permissions, I think thats where the issue lies.
Ive installed Joomla in another directory, fresh, with jomsocial attached, on the same server, and been able to upload the images no problem...just not on the site Ive restored with Akeeba. Ive tried with and without FTP layer, and a myriad of other things, but Im really at my wits end.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

JomSocial is a well-known extension which doesn't use Joomla!'s FTP layer. According to them, you have to chmod 0777 the directory which stores its images. Security-wise this is a very bad choice, but they used to do that by default up to two versions ago, until Brian Teeman called them out in public. This is probably why the other site worked out of the box (the 0777 permissions were silently applied). AFAIK, there is an option in the configuration of the component to automatically set the permissions of those directories to 0777. I do not use it on any of my sites, so I can't tell you which exact option it is, but you can ask their support.
