Thanks for any help ... I am a noob to Joomla, K2, and now Akeeba. I was able to do the online back ups just fine. However, extracting the files to my localhost is not working. I have set up a file folder with just the kickstart.php and the back up files in both zip and jap format. One folder I tried having a joomla set up.
None of them have a database on localhost yet. I receive an ajax data error when extracting with Kickstart or unzipping. The extract wizard errors out when installing, another ajax error. I would appreciate any help... I have been reading the excellent tutorials, watching videos, the problem is definately my inexperience and inability to take in too much. Also, the search function on this form keeps giving me error pages... tonight!

Didn't upload my attachments correctly! Also, I should add I found out about Akeeba after some how destroying all my localhost sites, and am starting with a fresh install of Joomla and new folders.

From what I read, I don't need to create a database if it is established site and I am downloading from a database? Or do I hvave that wrong? thanks...

The easiest -and fastest- way to deploy a site locally is using eXtract Wizard. You can try using Akeeba eXtract Wizard 3.1, the newer version of the software which is much more stable and faster than its predecessor (version 3.0.4 is using a third party framework called Titanium which seems to be throwing a lot of errors when installing and running on recent Windows versions). eXtract 3.1 will install properly and will run without any further problems on Windows XP, Vista or 7.

Regarding the database, you will need to create a new database, using phpMyAdmin, before restoring the backup archive. Remember to set the new database connection settings in the second step (Database restoration) of the restoration procedure. If you leave the default settings, they will not work as they are the settings "remembered" from the site you backed up from.
