Joomla! version: (1.6.x)
PHP version: (5.2.x)
MySQL version: (5.1.x)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (3.3b pro)

Description of my issue:
this is a feature request --
it would be really great to be able to run db-only backups and be able to zip or tar.gz the sql file. when i'm doing a lot of database work, i'm generally running mysqldump from the command line or phpmyadmin very frequently. i can do from akeeba, but don't like that it doesn't zip the file. i think it should be able to generate a standard dump file that could be imported via ssh/pma if desired.

But, that feature is already there, since 18 months ago? Create a new backup profile, activate it, go to the Configuration page, set the backup type to "All Configured Databases (archive file)".

i was using the main site db only option. would be nice if the archive option affected that selection. i don't necessarily want other databases archived every time.

it seems to me like the form/option logic should be consistent throughout.

- select backup content (files, current db, all dbs, files + db, files incremental)
- select compression option (zip, jpa, tar.gz)

its non-intuitive that the compression options only apply to certain backup content options, and that some content options actually include compression.

All backup modes create archives, except the "site db only" option which creates a plain SQL file. It is an exception to the rule.

The "All configured databases" is equivalent to saying "only the site database" when you have no other databases configured using the Extra Databases feature of Akeeba Backup.

Putting the parts of the site on a form is not possible. The reasons are technical and have to do with the necessity or not of putting a restoration script inside the archive, as well as the relative path of the SQL dump files inside the archive. Besides, believe me for I have tried, except you and me there would be no-one who'd understand the form method. Most people do understand the drop-down with different backup modes, though.
