Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: (1.7)
PHP version: (5.2.17)
MySQL version: (5.1.58)
Host: (BlueHost)
Admin Tools version: (2.1.5)
Akeeba Backup: (3.3.3)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:

When backing up a site with Admin Tools installed, should certain parameters be changed or disabled in Admin Tools if the site is to be restored on a localhost? I'm thinking something like "Allow administrator access only to IPs in Whitelist" should be disabled. Are there other areas?

Is there a writeup on this?

Why am I asking? I want an exact replica of a live site setup on localhost. On my first try everything worked except that I can't login to admin. On a site where Admin Tools were not installed I had no issues.

Thanks,

jmack50
I should have asked in my original post, can this be handled in "Files and Directories Exclusion." If so, what should be excluded?

This is a very valid question which is answered sideways in our documentation. The problem is that your on-line site's Admin Tools configuration causes issues when you restore it locally. In this case you have two options:

1. That's my preferred one. Backup and restore your site normally. After the restoration, follow our instructions on renaming main.php to main-disable.php to regain access to your site's back-end. Reconfigure Admin Tools and rename back the file.

2. You can exclude the contents (but not the entrie table!) of all of your jos_admintools_* tables before you backup your site. when you restore your site, these tables will be empty, therefore having Admin Tools' default configuration. I don't like this approach because you usually need to add exceptions to your Admin Tools' configuration to make software work. With this method, such exceptions will be lost and it's pretty sure that it will cause more troubles in the long run. Moreover, you have a partial backup of your site, which can't be used to restore your live site to 100% of the state it was when you backed it up (Admin Tools' configuration will be lost)

Well, it's your choice :)

Number one is the way to go. If I haven't said it before let me say it now. Akeeba Backup and Admin Tools Pro are two components that EVERY Joomla! website developer should have on their components list.

Absolutely the greatest!

Thank you.
