Hi,

I'm presently working with our new Joomla 1.7 site on a internal system and I have then backed this up and restored it on our host. The backup and restore went through without any issues however I notice when I log into the administration part of our website I can't seem to change any settings.

The other thing I have noticed is that none of the pop out windows seem to work. for example if I try to create a new menu item, I normally get a pop out window asking to select the menu type but all this seems to be overlayed on the add new menu window.

Hope this makes sense !,

Trevor.

Mandatory information about my setup:

PHP version: 5.2.13
MySQL version: 5.0.92
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.3

There are some issues I can think of:

1. Missing files from the backup. Please extract your backup locally (use Akeeba eXtract Wizard) and see if there are any files missing when compared with the site you backed up from.

2. Wrong permissions. Make sure that the permissions of your directories are at least 0755 and the permissions of your files at least 0644. Otherwise, Javascript won't load, with the consequences you described.

3. A Javascript blocker. If you have NoScript or a similar extension installed on your browser, it is possible that it is preventing Javascript on your live site to run. In this case you will observe what you reported. Just disable the Javascript blocker for your site.

4. A freak coincidence. This is my favourite, as it causes a lot of hair pulling! In some occasions, the site worked properly on a local dev server but when put online, everything broke. Why? PHP version differences caused something (e.g. a plugin) to misbehave and take everything down with it. If all of the above failed, please send me a Personal Message (I am user "nicholas") with the following information so that I can help:
- URL to your live site
- Super Administrator username/password
- FTP connection information

Hello Trey,

Thank you for the PM! I logged in to the restored site using Google Chrome 13 running on Mac OS X 10.7 and everything works properly. I created and deleted an article and I was able to create a menu item. Even the popup, which you said didn't work, worked perfectly on me.

This makes me think that the problem is on your local machine. Do you by any chance have an Antivirus, Firewall or Internet Security application running on it? AVG Antivirus is notorious for screwing up Javascript thanks to its "Link Checker" feature (it should be called "Internet destroyer", but I digress). I'd suggest turning off any such applications and retrying. Or, try using a different PC, preferable a brand new one.

Hi Nicholas,

tried a different machine and it worked !, so went back to my machine cleared the internet cache on both IE and Firefox and now it works perfectly !!.

Strange really as both the internal and external sites are completely different URL's but obviously something in the cache was shared between them !...

Thanks for all your help.

Trev.
