Description of my issue:

I get the following error while trying to restore a website with a .jpa file: "The archive file is corrupt, truncated or archive parts are missing"

I was in the process of upgrading my Joomla 1.6 to 1.7 in the extension manager when it crashed half way through. I had taken this back up right before, however this backup wont install.

If the file I downloaded is corrupt, can I search the server for the original, download and install that? Must I get rid of the content on the server that remains from the previous installation?

What must I do to restore the website?

First, try downloading the backup archive and re-uploading it to your server using FTP in Binary transfer mode, as shown in this video: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/video-tutorials/item/1023-ab03.html The backup archives are stored, by default, in administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup

If this doesn't help, try following the advice in the troubleshooter: https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/kscantextract.html

If this still does not work, please let me know what you've tried and what the results were so that I can further assist you.
