Hello,
i have installed on joomla website 1.5.24 new install of akeeba in replacement of joomlapack working on the same site.
No problem with installation of latest akeeba version 3.36, admin tools, and on my xp pc akeeba remote control 4.0.8 with plugin 3.1.b2

From backend backup, all is working properly, my problem is about ARC 4.0.8 use, when i start a backup all seem to work but when the backup is ready on website i obtain same issue each time i try:

What can i do for that ? nothing found to solve by myself, from your documentation nothing seem to be forget in configuration.

We regret to inform you that Akeeba Remote Control has been discontinued as of May 27th, 2011. It was publicly announced back then.

That said, your problem is not with Remote Control, it's with a server-side failure. If you want me to help you solve this, I will need the backup log file. Not the one you posted, that's the Remote Control log file. I need you to go to your site's back-end, Akeeba Backup, View Log, select the "JSON API" origin, click on the Download log file link, put the log file in a ZIP archive (DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THE LOG FILES IN YOUR REPLY - it's the first thing that's written on the top of the log file!) and I will see what's going on.

Bad news for me , i installed a discontinued software, sorry but nothing is displayed to take attention for customer when you download ARC 4.0.8 or in documentation, i didn't follow ARC news in may so for me the product was always up to date.

Is it another way to automate backup without ARC 4.08 ? because last months it was the only way working on mutualised host.

There was our standard notice on the installation page "THIS SOFTWARE IS DISCONTINUED". Since you were the fifth person to ask me a question about Remote Control in two days (after six months of no questions whatsoever) I decided to pull down the download page.

There are many ways to automate your backup! Theh best approach is using the low-cost webcron.org service with Akeeba Backup's front-end backup feature as detailed in the "Automating your Backup" page of our documentation.

Now, regarding the backup failure, the real reason is the email to the administrators feature in Akeeba Backup which failed. Just go to Akeeba Backup's Control Panel page, click on the Component Parameters and disable the email on backup completion. This should allow Remote Control 4.0.8 to work with your site - but I'm not sure if it will be able to download your backup archive.

I've just read the quick start guide for 4.08 version. In this doc nothing about the end of the software.

with your informations ARC is working properly and the file is DL on my local pc. Is it a bug on email? or is it because i enter nothing in form field?


Other thing each time i open ARC 4.08 it display an update window for 4.09 update version to DL but if i try to update i obtain an error:

installation failed , could not query info: invalid HTTP Status code (403)

Is it possible or not to solve this update message ?

The documentation is NOT the best source to get information about whether something is supported or not. The documentation is only updated when a new version comes out. Obviously, when something stops being supported, the documentation doesn't change.

The problem seems to be with the missing email address, yes. Supposedly, AB should be able to find the email addresses of your Super Administrators and send them an email. If this fails, it crashes. If you have an email address, it doesn't try to look for email addresses and it should work.

Regarding the ARC update error, try disabling your firewall and/or Internet security application. I have seen conflicts with ESET Smart Security and Zone Alarm. Disabling them temporarily allows the update to run.

Hi Nicholas,
You are right for informations in documentation but the access to documentation in DL page from your website don't inform anymore that the software isn't yet supported.
Sorry but i found this info nowhere on my surf on your site.

In fact it's not very important because the software seem always able to work properly with your help.

for the ARC update problem, i have only xp firewall and MSE Antivirus . is there another way to access this update file ?
why isn't it on souceforge DL if it's the latest version?

To complete your info i have an ipcop firewall on my LAN , i can't bypass it so is there a special port or protocol to open for a working update ?

Sourceforge page?! I haven't been using that for ages - over two years, actually, when Akeeba Backup was still called JoomlaPack.

Well, if 4.0.8 is working properly for you, please do not upgrade to 4.0.9. The difference between the two versions is the way the downloads work. What works for one site, doesn't work on another and vice versa. If your version works, keep it as it is and ignore the update request (which, unfortunately, can't be turned off because it's a feature of the framework I was using to build ARC).

Also, the downloads were provided by the Titanium developer portal itself. ARC 4 was built on Titanium, which meant that we had to use their cloud-based service to actually build the installer files. It's also what is providing the updated versions. It's a very complicated thing, part of why I decided to drop ARC.
