Description of my issue:

Hello Again Nicholas, I thing this is my last question :)

I plan to make db backup twice a day : how do the db backup work : does it block the while while backuping ?

I'm a ecommerce website : let's imagine an order is passed just while backuping, the client pays via banks website (in that case a script send the new order status to db), etc.

Can it corrup db ? will it be ok ?

Or is it better to make backup just at 4:00am ? :))

Thanks for your advice
Ed

It is generally a good idea for the database to not be in use while being backed up. No, it will NOT be corrupted (backup is a read-only operation) but the backed up data may be in a confused/undefined state. That said, I am backing up this site daily and the database is always in use, no problems observed whatsoever :)
