EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

We run daily backups on our full Joomla system. However, we have one very important component our online event booking system. If we have problem say during the day, rolling back to our nightly backup is not the best way as we would then have to try and check all the bookings made between the last backup and the time of the issue. What we would like to do is take a backup of just the component every 30 mins to reduce the time to get the booking system back to the state before the issue

One way I thought was to just to back up all the DB tables associated with the component, which is easy to set up in Akeeba. But I am wondering what other files might I have to backup. Should I also backup all the component files as well.

Any ideas from anyone who has tried to do this would be appreciated.

Hello,

thing is: does this component have any item level permission? I mean there are any fine-tuning permissions at item level (for example category, hotel etc etc).

That's the whole tricky thing, since in that case every item will have a to the #__assets table in Joomla core, the one that track all the permissions for the whole site. In that case, I'd strongly suggest to avoid backing up only the component itself, since you could end up corrupting the permissions for the whole site, leaving you with a broken site.

You can, however, create database backups for the whole site, not only the component. You will have larger backups (but not very much, unless you have a huge website), but you should be on the safe side

Hi Davide,

Thank you for that information, very useful and things I would not think about. I will try some tests on backing up the whole Data Base to see how long it takes.

At the moment due to Covid-19 we have not opened up the booking system so we don't have any bookings but at least I will get an idea of the time difference between our full back up and just the database back up.
