When I change the archive storage location, I receive a failure to write error, regardless of where on the server the path is. I even created a new root folder /textback with 777 permission and received the same error. As long as I leave it as the default, it works fine.

Any ideas?

My Hostgator account won't allow 777 permissions. Anything over 755 will throw an error.

The output path starts from the root of the server, or what WordPress thinks is the root of the server, depending on the setup. That can be tricky because you usually can't even see the whole path. Please try using the browser button (the folder icon at the far right of the path field) to enter the path.

As I have a dedicated server, I ahve access to any path and full permissions, so creating a new root folder and setting it to 777 works fine. However, ABWP does not like it.

I created a folder under wp-content called backups and it didn't like that one either. Both with permissions of 755 and 777. Same write error.

If 777 works on your server, that's fine for testing, but we don't want to leave it that way when we get everything figured out.

I'm thinking the problem is the path, not the permissions. That is why I asked you to use the browser rather than try to type the path into the field.

The other possibility is a security plugin that is "protecting" your site - in this particular case too well. Do you have a security plugin installed that may be preventing writing to this folder?

I had tried both typing the path as well as using the browse function.

Ah! Do you have any open_basedir restrictions on your server? That could do what you're describing.
