I currently have a WordPress site abc.zyx with an Akeeba Pro ID assigned and I just created a second WP site (different root directory from under a subdomain of for development of a replacement site of at some point in the future.

At some point I will to promote this test site to and point the DNS to the new directory.

Do I use the same ID for the subdomain as I have to the parent site, since it's the same .xyz domain or do I need to assign another ID?

If I do need another ID, what affect with this have if any on the name change of the site when it's promoted to replace the original site?

The Download ID, primary or add-on, is not tied to a domain name. However, to make things easier for you in the long run, especially if you plan on having other people in your admin team, we recommend using a new Download ID for every live site you maintain.

It's not necessary, it's just recommended good practice.

The description of the Add-on Download ID is just for you. It's not used anywhere else. Therefore changing the domain name of a site will NOT have any effect on your Download ID working correctly.

I hope this information helps!
