Backups are transferred to remote ftp site. this works fine. but the local files are not deleted automatically. This is a big issue due to storage quotes by the hosting provider.

These are my quota management settings:

enable remote files quotas: unchecked - i don't want akeeba to delete files on the remote ftp server

enable maximum backup age quotes: unchecked.

Maximum backup age in days: 1 day

Don't delete backups taken on this day of the month: 0 day

Obsolete records to keep: 50 Items

Enable size quota: unchecked

Size quota: 15MB

Enable count quota: checked

Count quota: custom: 3

Your quota settings say that up to 3 local backups will be kept on the server. However, you seem to want the backup archive to be removed immediately from your local server upon it being uploaded to the remote FTP server. If this is the case, you are looking athletic the wrong place :) Here's how to do that.

Go to your profile's Confiugration page.

Find the “Post-processing engine” row and click on the ‘Configure...’ button next to it.

Make sure that ‘Delete archive after processing’ is checked.

Upon successful upload of the backup archive to the remote server the local copy will be deleted immediately.

If you see that the archive is not deleted from your server it means that it probably wasn't uploaded to the remote FTP server. In this case try to set a smaller Part size for archive splitting in the Archive Engine settings. Typically, a value between 5Mb and 50Mb works on most servers. The reason is explained in the documentation.
