Good afternoon Nicholas or Davide,

On one site the back-up of Akeeba is very slow. I think the problem lies at the hosting company but they say "there are no problems".

The site back-up takes 18 minutes for 2GB and when I compare it to another site (7GB back-up, 4 minutes) on another hosting it is very slow.

Can I tweak or change settings to shorten the time or investigate why the back-up takes such a long time?

Thanks!
Damiaan.

Hello,

yes, you should take a look at the minimum and maximum execution time.

Which are your current settings? Please try with minimum 1 and maximum 25. That should speed up the backup since it will do more work on each step.

By the way, the configuration wizard automatically tries to set the best timing, so you might end up with some errors if you manually change it. Please give it a try and let me know how it works.

Hi Davide, the wizard found minimum execution time 2 sec and max 14 sec.

I will try now 1 sec minimum and 25 sec max and after back-up I've let you know how it goes.

The test site which had 2sec/14sec and now 1sec/25sec went for a 1GB back-up from 17 to 13 minutes.

But I the live site (2GB 20 min) had already 2sec/25sec. Can I tweak some other for more speed?

Sadly no. There are several factors that can affect the speed, like the size of the database and the amount of data in each table, as well as the size of each file and the filesystem structure.

You can take a look at the database settings and check that the amount of rows read at each step are 1000, just to be sure.

O.k. clear Davide.
Can you point me in the right direction where to check for the rows? I've looked but cannot see it.

Hi Davide, from 400 (configuration wizard) to 1000 rows did not much. A bit longer for the back-up from 18 till 20 minutes.

Well, I've done enough so I will leave it like it is. Nothing to do about now.

You can close the ticket, thanks for help.
