Hi Nicholas,

this is a followup to #39574 'cause I don't see how to add a comment there.

After pulling v8 completely ... what do you recommend for sites which are already on v8.x now? Will they be receiving updates until v8.1 is released or are you recommending a downgrade to v7?

For the future, we have identified the root cause of the problem being WP 6.3 deleting the plugin's folder on update, something which would have happened with any update (not just a major version), the next version (8.1.0) will be a manual update.
