A friend of a client is having problems with his current host. After a lengthy back-and-forth he was finally given hosting control-panel access and wordpress credentials by the guy that was responsible for upkeep. Seems like other than keeping the wordpress installation up-to-date (the site in question is running 5.5.1), he didn't do much. Multiple extensions out of date, control panel php still set to "native (7.2)" and a crapload more i discovered after i was forwarded the credentials to take over upkeep and maintenance.

First order of business is naturally a full site backup. Noww since i don't have Akeeba Backup for WordPress (as i do my designing on the; in my mind superior; joomla platform) i'm restricted to Akeeba Solo. Now i was wondering what profile would be best suited for this. The generic script one, or "Wordpress 3.x", as i don't see 5.1 listed?

My guess is that the 3.1 WordPress version in Solo will work, but I'm not 100% sure.  The generic profile will make a real mess because WordPress stores the URL in the database and the WordPress restore script updates all those references.  Welcome to WordPress.  :-)

Another option would be to use the Core version of Akeeba Backup for WordPress.  The major feature that you're giving up with Core is you can't do an unattended backup.  Right now, you're just trying to move the site, so that isn't a really big deal.

Went with the 3.1 version. Seems to have done the trick, naturally immediately tested the backup. There was indeed a part in the kickstart installer about updating urls. Why would anyone hardcode urls, seems illogical to me. Domainnames change all the time. That said, this WP maintenance is only temporary. They've been notified i don't usually do WP sites, so maintaining it will cost extra (as for example i'd need to pick up Akeeba backup and admin tools for WP, just for them). Plans are to hopefully redesign that entire website with a more modern look, and based on joomla :)

Case closed!

I'm glad you got it working!

If you run into Nicholas at a conference or something, you'll have to ask him about WordPress hard coding URLs in the database.  You'll get quite a rant.  But don't tell him I put you up to it!

I doubt i'll go to any conference any time soon. don't have the financial means. Though it is on my bucketlist (along with a trip to the USA one day :p). But not while trump is in power lol
