I have set up a custom field assigned to a single category with type 'Dropdown'

When the field is displayed. it is not possible to select any options.

See screen shots.

I can't see what I am doing wrong here???

Hello, 

please take a look at the inline help for the options field. As you can see, you have to provide on each line a key pair like this:

1=Email System
2=Newsletter

etc etc

And in the Default Value field, use the corresponding value, for example 2 for Newsletter.

Please update your config and try again, it should work.
