Hi, I hope someone can help me,
I’m having trouble extracting the backup once downloaded.

I’ve created a successful backup of my site using joomla pack.
I then copied it down to my pc using filezilla, selected binary transfer

When I use the extractor to try extract the backup to a location on my pc I get the following message;

I/O error: 123.

Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong?

I’ve done a search of this error and can’t find it anywhere else on the forum, so apologies if this problem has already been discussed.

dlb
I don't recognize that error. Just a couple of clarifications:
[ul]
[ol]By "extractor" you mean the eXtract program from Native Tools?[/ol]
[li]What archive format are you using, zip or jpa?[/li]
[/ul]

Hi there !

Im having the exact problem..

Ive downloaded the backup file from the site and from filezilla, when i use the eXtract it gives me that error... ive tried to open the file with winrar and other uncompressor tools and it gives me the same error our a CRC error...

Im a little bit desperate because i have to migrate one site until the 1st week of the next month..

Thank you

dlb
The CRC error is normal for a zip file when backed up on a php version less than 5.2 and/or the hash module not installed. The 123 error from eXtract is not normal. I'll flag this for Nicholas.

This is Delphi I/O Error 123 "ERROR_INVALID_NAME", which means that one of the files in the archive has a name which is invalid on Windows.

Before you start scratching your head, let me give you a simple example: in Linux the filename one"bad:case;of,a=filename is valid. In Windows, it violates the file naming rules FIVE times as the quotes, colon, semicolon, comma and equal sign are all forbidden characters for Windows filenames.

Unfortunately, the current version of the Native Tools can't work around this limitation. I am preparing a new cross-platform version which will be able to work around this and it'll also have an optional command-line interface for the CLI-geeks out there :)

Hummm very interesting ! :)

So in theory, if i decompress the file on a Linux ou Mac Os machine it wouldnt give me that kind of errors ?

Im gonna try tomorrow and ill report if it works :D

Thank you very much !

Hello !

Well it worked pretty good !

I was able to decompress using my Mac without any error :) , the only think i had to do it was to change the file from jpa to zip.

Then jus uploaded the files to the new server, filled up the forms from the installation deleted the installation directory and .. voilá :) Flawless

Thanks alot ! you guys rock XD

Hello!
I have the same error message, but I can't decompress the file renamed from .jpa to .zip (using Mac).
I'm in trouble because I need to restore my backup but I can't to it by Native Tools.
Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

dlb
The jpa file is not in a zip format, renaming the file won't solve the problem.

The archive was created on a system other than your Mac. That system allowed a file name that is illegal on your Mac system, as Nicholas explained in his last post. The archive can be extracted on the same file system that the backup was created on, the file names would be legal there.

Hi,

In my case, i dont have any access to any Mac computer. I have the same I/O error 123. Is there another solution for decompress. I try to exclude some folders...but no success..

I use Joomla 1..5.14, PHP 5.2.10 and JPA compression

What can i do more ???

Thanks for your help..

Michael,

It isn't just Mac that has this problem. Nicholas explained it better earlier in this thread. That was a Linux vs. Windows example, the first time this came up the source OS was BSD, which allows some really strange stuff in file names.

I'm stuck on this one. I have the experimental version of the extractor that Nicholas mentioned, but I'm traveling this weekend and can't get to my home machine.

The only think I can suggest now is to find and fix the bad filename on the source website and redo the backup. Yes, I know that's a lousy answer, it is just the best I can do right now. :(
