Hello all,

We are running the latest version of JoomlaPack Remote on a Windows 2K3 box, with several Joomla 1.5 websites running backups on a weekly basis.

While we've had weeks of successful backups in the past, once we upgraded to this latest version of Remote, our backups stopped coming to the server.

What happens is that you can see the activity monitor across the bottom showing that the backup is being "prepared", and then it goes into "Download" status. It will stay stuck on "Downloading 0 of 0 KB".

Another note: going to the website we're trying to backup, you can see/access the successful front-end backups, so we know it's communicating. The files are just not being "delivered".

Thanks for the assist.

On the Remote configuration screen, try adding a delay before download, 15 - 30 seconds should be enough. I was getting ftp failures before I added the delay on my server. On some servers there is a delay between the backup being done and the file actually being available.

Hi dlb,

Thanks for the response.

We've tried adding 30 second delays to all the websites listed in Remote, and also set the max simultaneous backups/downloads to 1. Still doesn't work.

It's just freezing on "Downloading 0 of 0 KB", after an apparently successful backup procedure.

OK, I'll ask Nicholas to take a look and see if he has any ideas.

When you double click on an idle site's definition the site editor appears. In the Downloads tab you can set up the FTP parameters and there is a test connection button. When you press it does it report conenctng successfully to the site?

If it doesn't, you'll have to check your FTP settings. If it does work, are you sure you have also upgraded plg_jpremote on your site? The JoomlaPack Remote and plg_jpremote versions must match for full compatibility.

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for the assist. We have upgraded all of our XLMRPC plugins across the Joomla sites we are running to the latest version from the downloads section, and also uninstalled/reinstalled the main .EXE program. Still nothing.

Yes, each website reports "Connection Established" when you click "test" in the edit site box. It will back up the site; you can watch it backing up directories, etc. but that's it.

Don't know if this helps or not, but we're using Rackspace Cloud hosting. Cloud-based hosting has it's own issues, for sure, but we've also never encountered a problem till now when we upgraded - everything used to run just fine.

You should probably disable the two options "Use FTP active mode" and "Try to keep FTP connection alive" in the Downloads tab of the Site Definition Editor.

If both these options are disabled, you can try enabling the "Use FTP active mode".

If nothing of these helps, then I would like to have the JoomlaPack Remote log of a backup attempt. You can produce one, right after the backup attempt, by left and then right clicking on the site and choosing "View Log". Then, click on the "Save as text file" button, ZIP and attach here.

THAT WORKED!!! All green for the status bar indicators now, down the whole row.

All I did was change the FTP option to "Use active FTP", as both boxes were unchecked initially.

Thanks Nicholas! You guys rock over here at JoomlaPack - without a doubt the best and fastest support response I've seen yet in the Joomla world, and I've been around!

Thank you for your kind words! We value our support as much as our code. IMHO, having either one without the other is as bad as having no product at all :D
