Hi

Just installed JoomlaPack Remote (JPR). Now able to create a backup without logging into the site admin backend. Everything about the backing up process works just fine :)

However, I'm having a problem getting JPR to connect to my server over FTP in order to automate the download process.

My server is setup to use SSH and I can use FileZilla to connect using SFTP without any problems but when I test my FTP settings in JPR, I get the following:

Could not connect to FTP server.

Error connecting with SSL.

Error connecting with SSL. (yes twice)

error:1408F10B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number

The settings I have used are:
Host: my server's IP address
Port: 22
Use secured (FTP over SSL) connection: Checked

Really appreciate any help - thanks.

That one is a "Nicholas question." I'll flag it for his attention.

JoomlaPack Remote doesn't support SFTP, it only supports plain FTP and FTPS (FTP over SSL) in implicit mode.

SFTP is a completely different protocol. It is - in a nutshell - a file transfer subsystem of the SSH2 protocol (an improved implementation of SCP in principle). Please take a look at the wikipedia article on SFTP and the one on FTPS.

I know it's confusing. There are a lot of "secure FTP" protocols: FTPS, SFTP, Secure FTP... They are all incompatible and, unless you are a seasoned Linux admin, hard to grasp. Since the networking library of JPRemote only supports the FTP protocol and has an option for SSL encryption, we are stuck with using FTP and FTPS only. Bummer!
