Hi,

I am really and Imean really impressed with the Restore, it was so well done I used kickstart and all my files and database restored wonderfully on a new server.

Except when I run my website I geta 404 error in redbox and it says component missing.

Any suggestions

dlb
What version did you use to create the backup archive? There were problems prior to 2.3.3 that would result in this error. The files and database in the backup archive are fine, the error is in the installer, which we can work around.

The other thing that will cause this error is php 5.3. Joomla! 1.5.14 and prior are not compatible with 5.3. There is a version in testing now that will be 5.3 compatible.

Hi,
Thank you ever so much for getting back to me :)

I believe that I did the archive with 2.3.3 how can I easily check that?

It seems like a version issue all round here. I really need some guidance on the next steps I need to take to determine versions etc and the resolutions.

Many thanks in appreciation
Helen

Helen,

If you can access the back end of the site, you can see the php version on the Help menu, under Info. I haven't seen any commercial servers running 5.3 yet, but it is very common with local servers.

If you're not running php 5.3 or if we can't tell, we can replace the installer with the Restoration Hotfix on the downloads page. It won't hurt anything if that isn't the problem.

hello

Again thank you for assisting me, I did check on my plesk panel and it does not say the PHP version.

Anyway i will check on the downloads for the Restoration Hotfix, I will give it a go, I am not too clear on whether I need to delete all the files or overwrite them

Any pointers?

Many thanks
Helen

user6718
Hello,
I need further help, I saw the Hot fixes download, but I do not know what to do here, please help.

It looks like a Joomla Module, what or how do I access the portion that I need

And what do I do with my current restore that says Component missing, Do I erase that or keep it

I think I really need a step by step here, or at least pointing in the right direction

Many thanks
Helen

dlb
Helen,

I don't think the Hotfix will fix it, I was thinking of another error.

The php version can be found in the Administrative section of your Joomla! site, that was the "back end" that I was referring to. Let's check the php version next.

Good, the php version is not the problem. What version of JoomlaPack did you use to make this backup?

Sorry for the late reply. It looks like Dale had to be away from his computer and I had at to deliver a project by Monday; a bad combination causing both support members to be absent at the same time.

The easiest way to figure out your JoomlaPack version is going to the components administration and taking a look at the com_joomlapack version.

Anyway, if all alse fails, there is the guaranteed-to-work emergency manual restoration method. However, I must give you two important warnings:

1. You MUST download the backup file using FTP in BINARY mode, unless you are taking a backup from a local server. Same goes if you want to upload the backup archive to a live server in order to use Kickstart; you have to use FTP in BINARY mode. If you don't, the archive could get corrupt in transfer, leading to an incomplete site restoration.

2. If you proceed with the manual restoration procedure, you MUST extract the archive either with Kickstart running on a local host, or eXtract (part of our Native Tools) on a Windows PC. The reason is that due to some constraints in PHP, JoomlaPack generated ZIP files might not be correctly extracted by third part archivers, such as Windows Compressed Folder, 7-zip, WinRAR or WinZIP. It's better to be on the safe side, right?

Finally, if you still get the 404 errors, but the backend works correctly, you might want to check your menu items, especially the one marked as a home page. It is a long shot, but if you have hand-coded an absolute URL in there, pointing to your dev site, it is possible that your site's front-page won't display. In this case you just have to edit the menu item.

Hi
ok, The version of Joomla Pack is 2.3

I am still hanging in, so thank you for getting back to me with the information.

Does this help.... I have a FTP copy of the website, but not the database...is that useful or not

I need to know my next step. I started to rebuild my website from scratch and it is a hard hard task, so I am hoping that this will work here with joomnlapack

I really appreciate your help, if this works,I will make a good donation to your website :)

Again, I replied very late. Sorry, this last week was too busy.

Well, as I said, since you still have your backup file, first try to extract it using eXtract. eXtract is a Windows GUI application which is bundled with our Native Tools package. You can use it to extract the backup file locally. The backup file contains your site files, the JPI3 or JPI4 installer in the installation directory and your database dump in installation/sql/joomla.sql.

If you follow the instructions of the Manual Restoration I pointed you to, you can perform a perfect restoration of your site.

If you try doing this and get stuck somewhere, just post back so that we can help you. I can't predict if and where you'll get stuck along the way, so I can't provide any more specific information which could help you.

So, start with the Manual Restoration instructions and post your progresss here :)

Hi,

Is there a way to recover just the Database part of the JPA backup using kickstart

I have a new website built and would love to get hold of the articles
Many thanks

Helen snow

dlb
Helen,

There isn't any way to do a database only restore through kickstart. The database dump is /installation/sql/joomla.sql. The table names would need to be changed before it could be imported into your database. This is a simple search and replace, unless you're using Community Builder. In that case you just need to be a little more careful with the search. If you're interested in doing the manual restore, I can give you more detailed instructions.

Normally you should be able to extract the contents of akb_contents from the source site/backup file, but this implies that you have the same sections and categories on the new site, as well as NOT having written ANY articles (incl. uncategorized content) in your new site.

If any of those pre-requisites is not met, you might have better chance either copy-pasting the articles, or using Joomla!'s Blogger XML-RPC API plugin and a software like Windows Live Writer to transfer the articles among the sites. It's not a very easy process, mind you.

There is also the Joomla! Export Content Component. I have not tried it myself, so your mileage may vary.

Do note that both of the previous alternatives require you to restore the backup file on a local testing server (e.g. XAMPP, Wampserver, Uniform Server, etc) to provide an environment for the required plug-ins / components to operate.
