Dear People,

I am back again to whine some more :p. No just kidding! I just have small problem which I hope you can help me with (A).
Two topics ago there was someone with a similar problem. But I think that my problem resides in something else.. that's why I started a new topic. Everything works fine and I got the Remote Control software installed on my backup server. Everything works fine till the point it has to download/copy the backup file to the backup server itself. See error screen. The programme downloads a zip file (sort of), but it's empty. I don't really know what the problem can be.. it will probably be something I looked ten times over :p.

My goal is to get the backup file on the backup server (where the Remote Control software resides). Now I use the FTP option because it gives a "no ftp information" error when I don't use it, it is not that bad because I have the IIS services installed (yea I know..) on the server. I also tried an other ftp server outside the network but I got the same error. The backup with the browser works great and I can restore etc.

I got three screenshots and the log file included. I hope someone can help me :)

Under the ftp setup section, the "Host" should be something like ftp.jonakoudijs.nl. You need the ftp server where the backup file is located. The path should be the path from the root folder that ftp can access to the folder where the backup is stored.

So I need to fill in the ftp details of the web server where I am currently hosting my Joomla website? So (if I keep it the default) the path would be ../administrator/components/...?

Yes, you need the ftp server for your website. If you logged into your server with an ftp client, like FileZilla, and navigated to the Output folder, the path shown on the top right would be the path that you would use in Remote. It most likely starts before /administrator, but not always. :D

Hmm.. again this was pretty obvious.. I already thought it was a pretty weird way of backing-up if you have to back it up to a ftp server and the software then downloads it to itself :P. Thanks again very much! I can't test it right now because (a long story) I can't install a ftp server atm (it's a test server it runs on).

Jona,

You shouldn't have to install an ftp server, there is probably already one active on the site you are backing up. That provides the server side, Remote provides the ftp client. You wouldn't need an ftp server on the receiving side.

It is only obvious after you know the answer. :D

Hehe that's true! It all sounds obvious after you know the answer :p. My situation is a bit different because I host all my websites myself, on my own webservers. And I have several Joomla servers which I wanted a different backup method for, and then this beautifull package came along :D!

But the joomla website I was testing on, was a test server, wat didn't had a ftp server yet. But I tested it today on a other test server (which had a ftp server) and it worked flawless :)!

Most of our users are using a commercial server, which would have ftp or they are using a local server. You're in a slightly different situation. I'm glad the backup worked for you. :)
