Took a few tries to get kickstart.php going, but after browsing the forum, I managed to get that going. Now, after I hit start, I get a pop-up with the following:


Warning: unpack() [function.unpack]: Type V: not enough input, need 4, have 0 in /hermes/web09/b1184/moo.jstanton/Akeeba/kickstart.php on line 879

If I click "ok" it brings me to the "click here to open installer" screen, but if I do I get a 404-File not found error.

Not sure how to check and see if everything has been unpacked in order to run installer manually - if I go into my file manager, it doesn't appear anything has changed.

Trying to get site from wamp local to webhost (fatcow). :|

EDIT/UPDATE: Managed to figure out it doesn't like .zip files. Or, at least, not mine. So I found the .jpa and uploaded that instead, got to the install link without the error above, but when I click, I still get the page not found error. Again, nothing appears to be extracted in the file manager, and with my secure reputation for breaking stuff, I'd rather not poke around too much looking for the file to install manually.

Not sure if it means anything, but I realized that the backup configure page in Joomla is telling me "default output directory in use," although there does not appear to be any problem with the remote backup that I can see.

The "default output directory" warning is security related, it wouldn't cause this problem.

It looks like the archive is not being extracted properly. If you test your zip archive locally with a zip client, does it test as OK? The archives can be corrupted by transferring them in ftp in ASCII mode. The jpa archives are slightly more susceptible to this than zip.

We can bypass kickstart by extracting the archive on a local machine and transferring the files to your live site via ftp. It isn't any fun transferring 5000+ files via ftp, but it works. You can extract a jpa archive with the eXtract program, available on our download page.
