Hello my friends!!!

please is there any Akeeba eXtract Wizard portable version ???

thanks for the great backup solution!!
you guys rock ;-)

dlb
I'm not sure what you mean by "portable." The current version will run naively under Windows, Linux or Mac. The different versions are on the Downloads page.

hi!!
portable i mean programs that can be run from a folder (without installation) and that dont write to registry or anywhere anything else :-)

to be able to have the program to a folder in a usb stick and have it available to all the computers without to need to install all the time and to many different computers

sorry for my English, hope you understand what i mean

dlb
Yes, I understand. I do not know the answer, I will ask Nicholas to respond.

I have chosen to package eXtract in such a way that it may be used as a portable version. First, you have to install it on your PC. Then, copy everything from its own folder to your USB stick (or other portable medium) and you're set. I haven't really tried it, but it should work.

thanks very much dlb and Nicholas!!!

i extract the .exe with universal extractor and copied the files to a usb stick and everything works great!!!

only i dont know if i leaves any "rubbish" (registry entries - appdata - etc) to any computer i run it from usb

Edit: it leaves traces to appdata.. (Titanium folder with some subfolders)
only need to find out about registry now ..

That's good to hear! The appdata traces should not contain any sensitive information (as far as I can tell). I am pretty sure that it doesn't add anything in the registry, or - at least - I am not telling it to save anything in the registry. Hmm... I wonder if someone is more experienced than me with the PortableApps.com tool set for making applications portable and would like to help?

I am interested in the same thing for Akeeba Remote Control. Some of us do not have admin rights the workstations where we need to use Akeeba Remote Control. I have a portable 1TB drive that will be used for backups. Being able to copy the Akeeba Remote Control program files to that drive and execute from there would greatly expand where I could use the application.

I already use PortableApps from PortableApps.com for FTP, and Firefox for example and to have the same functionality for Akeeba would be huge.

I have been testing Akeeba and it is a remarkable program. I have been able to work through some issues but for the most part, it works flawlessly! I also like your website - a model for the rest of us.

I think that you should read the portable Remote Control instructions in our documentation ;)

You are right, nicholas. I thought I had read all the documentation but I missed that. Thank you for the link.

For someone else's benefit, I'll tell how I did it: This installation is going on an external drive that will be used for "backup and then lockup". I was using Akeeba Remote Control instead of Joomla Pack and I had the setup file not the zip file. I could not install on the external drive connected to a workstation where I did not have admin rights but that is the beauty of the external drive. I connected it to workstation where I do have admin rights and installed the software directly to the portableapps sub folder. It worked like a champ when I took it back to the workstation without admin rights.

I now have the best development environment I have ever had and part of that tests the backup.

Thanks again, nicholas, for a great application.

The truth is that this is a not-so-frequently asked feature, that's why the details are buried deep inside the documentation. I am glad you got it working now :)
