Hi everybody, I just installed the newest version of Akeebabackup and did a little backup test on a new site I'm developping. I did a JPA backup then downloaded the archive, twice. One time via FTP, antother time via browser. That was two separate backup.

For both backup, when I use the extractor (newest version too), everything seems fine, no error but there is no files extracted. The soft work for 1 second only and when I click on "show the files" the folder is empty. Both JPA files seems correct (8.75 Mb).

Any idea what I'm doing wrong ? I'm using WinXP

Thank you.

Please zip and post your backup log. I want to check for a configuration problem in the backup. That will tell me if the problem is backup or extraction.

All right, here it is :

Thank you.

The backup looks fine, the problem is in the extraction somewhere. On eXtract's "Choose your files" screen, uncheck the "Ignore most errors" box and try the extraction again. That should either extract the files or tell us why it is having a problem.

I already guessed that, that's why I tried to run the extractor without the "ignore errors" but it doesn't change anything : the soft say almost instantaly "finished" without reporting any error and there is no file extracted.

Out of curiosity, I tried to unpack the same backup but this time with the Mac version of the extractor (my personal computer is a Mac but at work I have an XP). Guess what ? Works like a charm. The same backup is extracting perfectly.

There must be some problem in your Win version of the extractor because the Mac version works just fine.

I'll flag the thread for Nicholas so he knows about your experience.

The software is exactly the same on both platforms. It's all written in Javascript and PHP, with Titanium as its "shell". The only different between the Windows, Linux and Mac OS X version is the Titanium runtime, which - of course! - performs the same on all platforms.

On Windows XP you have a problem with permissions. Just right click on the folder you are trying to extract to and select Properties. First, make sure that read only is disabled (white check box). If it is selected or grayed out, uncheck it and apply the change recursively. Next, click on the Security tab. From there, assign the "Everybody" pseudo-user to have Full Control of the directory. This should be adequate.

All right, I'll test that on Monday and let you know. Didn't know that you have to check the permissions on XP ....

user12076
Well, it seems it's Win XP fault : it doesn't let me remove the "read only" square on any folder of my system, even network ones. The issue is with this stupid XP, sorry for the trouble.

I'll figure a way around this, or just download the whole site via FTP (it's not a big one).

Thank you.

I know, Windows drive me mad too, that's why I spend most of my time using Linux :D

If you have Windows XP Professional you should be able to change the ACLs as I wrote on my last reply. If you are on XP Home, you're unfortunately out of luck. Even though the filesystem (NTFS) supports and enforces ACLs, Microsoft chose not to give you the tools to manage them. They have rectified this on Windows Vista and Windows 7, but that's an expensive upgrade :(

On network drives you usually can't change the permissions remotely. You have to do that by connecting to the remote server's Terminal Services (if it's running on Windows Server) or through SSH (if it's Linux).

"it's not a bug, it's feature"

Oh well, I'll use my Mac to extract the files LOL .

Thanks for the help.
