If the new host is based on IIS, or if the web server doesn't allow using .htaccess files you can not use the standard SEF URLs. If your new host does use Apache and does allow .htaccess files, make sure that your .htaccess file was restored. By default, it is renamed to htaccess.bak and renamed back to .htaccess when you click on the Clean Up button in Kickstart. If you forgot to do that, you have to rename that file manually. Moreover, the last few pages of our Quick Start Guide contain more instructions about changes which might be required in configuration.php and/or .htaccess for SEF URLs to work properly, i.e. the $live_site parameter and the RewriteBase directive.
