Love the new remote control. Excellent interface, really easy to use. However, I've tried it three times, today, to set up several Web sites on autopilot backup, and here is what happens.

I will get two, or three Web sites done, and backed up, and as I'm working along, all of a sudden the control panel disappears. It's no longer in my system tray, or anything. So, I go back to Programs, open up the remote control, and I get the control panel back, but my backups are gone.

So, I'm going to continue getting the Web sites set up for the new backup system, but will need to get them going as soon as I find out why this is happening.

That's most likely caused by stale configuration options. Try this: open the application, close it, open it again then close it again. This will make sure that stale options are purged. Then open the application and set up your sites. Close it once more to make sure all settings are saved (everything is saved at application shutdown).

Hi Everyone,

still can wish a HAPPY NEW YEAR?

I have tried out today the 3.2.b3 with Remote Control 4.02. The backup works fine, but the subsequent download doesn't.
After downloading the .jpa and the first 5 backup file (out of 12) the remote control panel disappeared as well, i.e. the program closed. Consequently the download is interrupted.

I have made three attempts, always the same.

Also after a restart of windows, the same happened

Is there anything I can change or I dit wrong?

Pleased to hear.

Best Regards
Hartmut

Please send me the URL and Super Administrator login details to your site by means of a direct Personal Message. I am user "nicholas". This will allow me to replicate the issue with full debugging enabled so that I can find its root cause and resolve it. Please remember to mention the exact Operating System you are using (i.e. Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium).

VERY IMPORTANT: Please include a link back to this post, otherwise it's impossible for me to know why you're sending me the PM.

I have discovered that the problem was not in Akeeba Remote Control but the JSON API code in Akeeba Backup itself. Please install the latest developer's release on your site. This developer's release addresses this problem and allows downloading the backup archives correctly.

Hi Nicholas,

I'm sorry to say, but the behaviour did not change with the developer version. After downloading 4 Archive file and the .jpa file, the download was interrupted because Remote Control 4.02 did suddenly close.

Any other idea?

I had a similar bug report yesterday and I'm now trying to reproduce this issue. How big was the backup archive you tried to download? You can see that information in the Administer Backup Files page of the Akeeba Backup component. Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Thanks for quick response.

The archive consists of 12 files, plus the .jpa-file, in total about 260 MB.
Each file j01 to j12 is of the size of 20 MB.

Thank you for your feedback! It turns out the problem was tougher than I thought. Remote Control 4 is based on the Titanium application framework. It turns out that the PHP integration in the Titanium framework has a huge, known memory leak bug for a year but they won't fix it. The direct consequence was that trying to transfer more than 128Mb would cause a PHP memory exhaustion error, crashing the application. I have worked around this limitation by implementing the decoding algorithm in Python. I will release a new version later today or tomorrow. Please note that I will also release an updated version of the component, so you will also have to upgrade it on your site in order to work properly.

Hi Nicholas,

perfect job, I updated to the latest version 3.2.b4 from today and made a manual backup.
Then I started Remote Contrl 4.02 and first thing was, it updated automatically to 4.03.
I then inialized the remote backup with Remote control and... BINGO, it worked fine and also the download worked perfectly.

I'm happy, thanks a lot Nicholas.

Great Module and really great support!
