In Site Editor when I click on the "Get Profiles" button, the error says Invalid login credentials? Does it get the credentials from the old remote control? I don't see a way in the new RC4 to add credentials.

Did you read the four-pages documentation? As it clearly states you have to enable the front-end and remote backup option in the Component Parameters page, as well as type in a Secret Key. Then, when setting up the site in Remote Control, just below the site URL you are asked to type in the same Secret Key. That's your access credentials. Please read the documentation. It's intentionally kept short and to the point.

I read the instructions, did use a secret word, enabled the backup process, etc.
I will delete that site, start over with a new secret word, does the secret word have to be different for each website?

UPDATE- made a new secret word, all lower case this time, and it worked, got the default profile, and backing up files as I write this. All seems as it should be.

When selecting the backup location, there's no option to create a new folder, that would be nice to have.

Thank you for your prompt reply,

The new RC doesn't remove the backup files after the download? Will that option be available in a future version, so I don't have to manually do each site?

Hmm... of course. The Secret Key is case-sensitive, so a mismatched lower/upper case letter could make the difference. I will consider the new directory per download, most likely by implementing something like Akeeba Backup's "variables" (e.g. [DATE], [TIME] and so on). The current version doesn't support delete-after-download, but it's on my TO-DO list.

On Hostgator hosting I get this error when trying to get profiles:
AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 ()
XHR ReadyState: 4
Raw server response:
(Close button)

I have setup everything as correct as I know having had one site work, I'm aware what to look for.

Guy,

The 500 error intentionally doesn't give you any information about what really happened. You can see the "real" error in the server error log in the HostGator Control Panel. Please post that error here and we'll be able to figure out what is happening.

The error 500 could be because of a bug in the JSON decoding code in 3.2.b3. Try installing the latest Developer's Release which has this fix applied.

Developer releases are usually considered unstable and should be used at your own risk. I'm going to try it on just one host to see if that get's it working and will let you know.

Yes, they are, as they usually represent work in progress. This particular dev release I am proposing only fixes bugs discovered in 3.2.b3 and I consider it safe for use on a live site. Well, as least as safe as a beta can be :) Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Can't get a log from the cpanel error logs at all, contacted the Hosting company, and they're saying the error logs are fine...

UPDATE- tried a different domain at HostGator, installed the upgrade from the component, setup the parameters, added secret word in all lowercase, did NOT select to have results sent by email, and it's in the process of backing up now...

Based on this I'm going to start over with a clean slate on the first site, reinstall everything new, not select email results and report my findings if that fixed the JSON error.

UPDATE 2- No luck with uninstalling, email me and I'll give you the secret word for that site, you'll then see what I see. A puzzle to be sure!

Maybe the reason is this? The site that I setup for RC4 that fails was first installed on it's IP address, then the customer changed the nameservers and now we work on the site via it's domain name, that's one difference between that failing domain, and the one that works which was installed by the domain name, not the IP address. The failing one was installed via the cpanel Fantastico with http://IP.address./cpanel and the one that is working was installed via http://www.domainname.com/cpanel is that somehow 'bending' something in the Joomla install, both of my ones that work are on domains installed on the domain name, one in cpanel install, and another host that was installed via FTP both on the domainname, and not the IP accessed cpanel.... the only thing I can think of that makes them different.

FIXED- The cure was to uninstall the Joomla installed via IP/cpanel and then reinstalled with domainname.com/cpanel login using Fantastico install with same username and password. Then installed Akeeba Backup Pro, setup the parameters needed for the Remote Control, and it ran first try! Even with the site offline too. As my friend Andrew says, "There's always a solution"

As a side note, Joomla! installations through Fantastico have several issues. The biggest one is that the installed database tables have no prefix. This is a mode of operation not supported by Akeeba Backup and, most notably, not even by Joomla! itself. The other issue is that the Joomla! version supplied by Fantastico is outdated which opens up a whole new can of worms. In any case, install Joomla! manually. Do not trust your host's cPanel to do that for you.
