After updating to Akeeba eXtract Wizard version 3.0.5 for MacOS, it no longer extracts the jpa-archives. It installed ok and opens ok, but when attempting to extract, it just freezes at the very start of the process.

The backup archive I attempt to extract was generated by Akeeba 3.1.5.

Is this a known issue? Anybody else experiencing it? I would greatly appreciate any advise.

I just released version 3.0.7 which fixes this issue. If the application doesn't automatically ask you to upgrade when you run it again, please install the new release manually.

Thank you for your swift response with 3.0.7 update. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to cure my problem. It still freezes at the start of the extracting process.

Sorry!

Please uninstall the application and re-install it. I am testing that on Mac OS X Snow Leopard running on my MacBook Pro and it works perfectly.

Another thing you may have problem with: where you are trying to extract. I strongly recommend extracting to a subdirectory of your desktop or your Documents directory. Trying to extract directly to the web documents root of XAMPP, MAMP and similar server solutions will not work due to the ownership and privileges of these directories.

Again, thanks for your prompt support. I am sorry to continue bothering you with this, but I just can't get it to work.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the application and I am saving the extracted files to the Document's folder. Just like you, I am using Snow Leopard (MacOS 10.6.6).

Still, the extraction process freezes immediately at the beginning.

Any other suggestions what could be the cause?

Which version of Akeeba Backup did you use to create the backup archives? Akeeba eXtract Wizard is compatible with archives made with Akeeba Backup 3.1.5 or later.

Apart from that, the only other thing I can think of is a broken Titanium installation. Titanium is the third-party application framework used to create Akeeba eXtract Wizard. You can fix that by doing the following:
1. Close Akeeba eXtract Wizard and Akeeba Remote Control if they are running
2. Open a Terminal window
3. Enter the following command
sudo rm -rf /Library/Application\ Support/Titanium/runtime/osx/1.1.0/

4. Close the Terminal window
5. Restart Akeeba eXtract Wizard

The application will start downloading Titanium again and re-install its runtime.

If that still doesn't work, please upload one of your backup archives which don't work in an on-line file sharing service (preferrably use DropBox) and send me a direct Personal Message. I am user "nicholas". This will allow me to debug this issue locally, investigating whether there is a bug being triggered by that specific archive.

[b]VERY IMPORTANT[b]: Please include a link back to this post, otherwise it's impossible for me to know why you're sending me the PM.

Tried everything you wrote (Terminal), still no go, Can you please provide your email so that I can send the archive? I will send it using yousendit.com.

I will PM you as soon as it is done.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X Snow Leopard with all updates installed. Akeeba eXtract Wizard extracts the archive you sent me normally. I think that the update doesn't get applied on your machine.

Please do this. Start eXtract Wizard and do nothing. Leave it open for 1-3 minutes. Does it pop a dialog asking you to upgrade it? Also, what is the version number printed in the lower left-hand area of the application?

Again thanks for taking your time. Followed your advise but no upgrade-popup appears. My verion number is 3.0.7.

Eek! I was used to insanity on Windows, but I never thought it would happen on Apple hardware. Please try once more removing the Titanium runtime with the Terminal commands I provided on my earlier post and uninstall eXtract Wizard. Then reinstall eXtract Wizard. Place your archive on the desktop. Run eXtract Wizard. Select the archive. Try to extract it. Hopefully it will work. I checked with other Mac OS X users and everybody tells me it works. I have no clue why it refuses to run on your machine :(
