I'm successfully using RC (for Mac) to back up some of my sites and it's an amazing application.

However, I'm getting different error messages with some other sites.

One of my sites (PHP version 5.2.13) gives me this error message:

Remote API Call Error
HTTP Status: 403 (FORBIDDEN)
Internal status: error
XHR ReadyState: 4
Raw server response:

Another one (PHP version: 5.2.6-1+lenny9) returns this:

JSON decoding error

Just wondering if there's a quick fix..

There is no quick fix. We'll have to take a look at the Remote Control and Akeeba Backup logs for each site to figure out what is going on.

I was afraid you would say that..

1.
RC log:
Running getVersion
AJAX GET to http://...
AJAX GET failed. Error data:
Remote API Call Error. HTTP Status: 403 (FORBIDDEN) …

Component log:
a bunch of these:
Kettenrad :: Attempting to load from database (backend)
Stored Akeeba Factory (backend) not found - hard reset

2.

RC log:
Running getVersion
AJAX GET to http://...
AJAX GET successful. Data: {"encapsulation": 1,"body": {"status" :500, "data":"\"JSON decoding error\""}}
getVersion failed with an error:
JSON decoding error

Component log:
ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error!

I want you to ZIP and attach the complete log files. Just looking at the last line of each log file tells me absoltuely nothing about your problem. IMPORTANT! Make sure that you select the "JSON API" origin to download the correct log files in the Akeeba Backup component. Thanks!

Akeeba Backup on my website does work fine.
However, backing up with RC does give me the following error messages. Remote API Call Error; Communication Error 500 No valid database connection
I have most recent versions of component and RC.
I attached the log-file.

Thanks in advance!

That's a problem on the hosting end. It seems that whenever Remote Control tries to access your Joomla! site, Joomla! can not connect to its database connection. First, make sure that you are using the correct URL to your site. Then, if you are using a a SEF component, follow its developer's instructions to turn off SEF URLs for com_akeeba. If none of this helps, you have an incompatible plugin which tries to fire when it shouldn't.

My one site can now be backed up, using the new version of RC, which is great. The other one, however gives me a ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error! when I try to look at the log in the backend and a getVersion failed with an error:JSON decoding error when trying to use RC. I can make backups in the backend though.

Most likely one of your plugins is screwing up Joomla!'s raw views which are required for the remote JSON API to work. Try disabling some third part system plugins.
