Hi,

It seems that Remote Control 4 isn't taking notice of the archiver engine setting for Joomla 1.6 sites.

I've read through the documentation, troubleshooter and forum threads and I'm not sure whether this is a bug or if this feature isn't actually present.

The things I've done are as follows:-

I've downloaded Remote Control 4.0.3 today on Windows 7 Pro 64bit and it updated to 4.0.6 beta. I'm backing up a Joomla 1.6.0 site running Akeeba Backup Core 3.2.2 and I've set the Configuration Archiver engine to ZIP format. Site backs up and downloads - but as JPA file. I created a second profile and tried that, but got the same result. Running a backup direct from Joomla back-end works fine and get a zip file. I've tried RC 4.0.3 against a Joomla 1.5.21 site and I get a zip file, so seems specific to Joomla 1.6 sites.

Many thanks!

Have you tried upgrading to Akeeba Backup 3.2.2?

Thanks for the amazingly fast response!

Yes - all the key bits look up-to-date. I'm using:-
  • Akeeba Backup core 3.2.2
  • Akeeba Remote Control 4.0.6 (Beta)
  • Joomla 1.6.0

I can not confirm this. Using Joomla! 1.6.0, Akeeba Backup 3.2.2 and Remote Control 4.0.6 it worked. I created a new backup profile, set the Archiver Engine to ZIP and let ARC download it. It backed up as a ZIP and downloaded as a ZIP. Please try installing Akeeba Backup on top of your existing installations. It should return no errors. If an error occurs, you have a partial upgrade and you have to resolve this. Then go to ARC and triple check that you have selected the correct profile which is set to backup as ZIP. Try backing up. It should create and download a ZIP file.

Hi Nicholas,

Thanks for confirming that Remote Control should and can back up a Joomla 1.6 site in zip format. It is now working for me. As you suggested, I re-installed Akeeba Backup core 3.2.2, re-set to archive as zip (the re-install over-wrote the previous setting), ran the backup through Remote Control but I got a JPA file. I then deleted the second back-up profile (created in a previous test) and re-tested and finally got the zip! Not sure what the problem was, but it is now working.

In between the back-ups made this evening, I was thinking that the problem was a local issue between my computer and Remote Control - I had a lot of problems installing it (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) and found the resolution in another forum thread (delete Titanium files and run repair). I tried installing Remote Control on another machine running Windows XP Service Pack 3 and got an error - I'm guessing it needs resolving the same way. The Titanium installation program looks to be a problem that will affect many users - maybe something to add to the TroubleShooter or even change to another installer.

[UPDATE: Win XP SP3 - error on install, but after okaying error it finishes install and actually works fine! Got zip file fine]

My issue in this thread is resolved, so I'd like to take this opportunity to say I am really impressed with Admin Tools, Backup and Remote Control. The level of support you provide is fantastic. I hope it's working out for you.

Many thanks.

You're welcome! Thank you very much for your kind words :)

Regarding ARC and Titanium, I became aware of several shortcomings of Titanium. I am now considering other alternatives. One alternative I want to explore is using FreePascal's Lazarus to create a native cross-platform application, but that will take some time. In the meantime, we have to put up with the shortcomings of Titanium :(
