Hello, I have a problem with Remote Control 4.0.8

I'm trying to make a backup from my Joomla ( Versie 1.5.23 DutchJoomla ) site but every time the back up stops (between the 50 - 90%) and isn't working at that moment and sometimes Remote Control even completely shuts down without any warning.

I'm using it also for other sites and then everything is going well.

I have tried several settings but none of them worked but I'm not sure I'm doing this correct.
I included a log-file from the last backup and I'm pretty sure the backup is not correct (I see it on the size of the file)

Could somebody help me with this so I can make a correct copy of the site?

Can you please download the raw log file from your server (use the Download Log File link in the Log Viewer page), ZIP it and attach it here? I can not read .DOC documents, I really need the raw log file to help you.

Is this the file you mean?

Yes, thank you! It turns out that you are running out of free space. I guess you can't even take a backup from the back-end of your site, right? Just delete old backups, clear your tmp directory, remove old mail and/or any other unused files on your site to make enough space for a new backup to be taken.

I have placed the output map and temp. map outside of the website (see enclosed sample) but still it isn't possible to make a back up and it stops this time at 79%

Could there something else be wrong?

It's still not working ..... :(

I cleaned up the web space and it's only filled for 66% (see enclosed) so in my opinion it shouldn't be a problem to make a copy.

Could it be that some of the settings is incorrect?

Can you take backups from the back-end? I can see that you are using up a lot of your disk quota (over 50%). If the backup needs more space than what's available in your account, it will still fail. The only way to know that for sure is to take a backup from your site's back-end (administrator section). If that fails, please download the raw log file (use the Download log file link in the Log Viewer), put the log file in a ZIP archive and attach it here. This will allow me to understand better what's going on.

According to your two log files, bot the back-end and the json backup completed successfully. That means, the Remote Control backup is working. Why are you saying it's not working? What error do you get? Can you also post the log file from Remote Control?

Hi,

I included 4 log files:

2 Files from the remote control WHICH FAILED again and two files from the back up I made via the back end and that was successful.

Could you please have a look to it ....... :)

OK, let's see what I see here:

Log file "back-and" -- This is a successful back-end backup
Log file "remote control" -- This is a successful back-end backup, NOT a remote backup (Remote Control backs place their log files under the JSON API origin and this backup clearly states it is using the "backend" origin which is reserved for back-end backups)
Log file "back-and2" -- This is a Remote Control backup, NOT a back-end backup, as denoted by the "json" origin registered in there. Furthermore, it's a complete (successful) backup
Log file "remote control2" -- This is a complete (successful) Remote Control backup.

So, to recapitulate:
You sent me four logs. All were successful backups. One of them was for a back-end backup, three of them were for Remote Backups. I can see no issues in your log files.

You have not posted the respective Remote Control logs (click on a site in Remote Control, click on View Log, then click on Save Log File). This will tell me if the final step resulted in an error or if an error occurred while trying to download your backup archive.

All I know right now is that your backups do complete successfully, but I have no idea why you say they fail. Would you please send me a Personal Message with the URL to one of your sites and Super Administrator login credentials so that I can try a backup from over here? Obviously, something is not communicated between us properly and I think that getting my hands on your site will be infinitely faster than repeated forum posts with missing bits of information ;)

Thank you for your PM. When I tried doing the exact same thing from my machine, it worked without a problem. All I can think of is that there is something going on with your machine or your ISP that doesn't allow you to download the backup archive in its entirety. You can always download the backup archive using FTP in binary transfer mode instead of with Remote Control.

That said, please note that I have observed a lot of funky behaviour regarding downloads. It seems that Titanium Desktop (the third party runtime we use to build Remote Control) is not the best choice of an environment to download large files. I am trying to find a better solution, but it may take me months to find an alternative.
