Hello. I'm thinking of getting a backup for Joomla, but before I do so, I have one crucial question for me. I know it works with Amazon S3, but what if I have a cheaper option that is S3 compatible, just have the regions done a little differently. Will it also work?

I'd like to link it to StorJ: https://www.storj.io/

Thank you for the answer.

We do support third party, S3-compatible services.

Reading between the lines, you are probably thinking about using Wasabi. Yes, Wasabi known to work just fine with our backup software and its Upload to Amazon S3 feature.

Thank you for the reassurance. Well, I mean, StorJ, which is the same as Wasabi or Amazon. There's just no need to enter a region like with those two services, so I just needed to be certain I could make it work.

I have only
Access Key ID: xxxx
Secret Key: xxxx
Endpoint: https://gateway.storjshare.io/

If there is no region then you must select signature method v2 in the configuration. You might also want to toggle between the subdirectory and subdomain bucket access as most third party services will support one but not the other.

In fact, the reason we still have support for the v2 signature method and the subdomain bucket access method in Akeeba Backup —even though they are deprecated by Amazon S3 proper— is to exactly because we want support third party services with an S3-compatible API. There are plenty of them and we're happy to support them all. They solve a lot of problems for a multitude of use cases our users face that Amazon S3 proper can't (or at least can't do so within the budget constraints of our clients).
