ALICE (Automated Log Inspection and Correction Engine) is a built-in troubleshooter for Akeeba Backup. When a backup fails and you are unsure what the log file is telling you, ALICE can analyse the log and give you a plain-language explanation of what went wrong and what you can do about it.
Go to your site's administrator backend.
Navigate to , , Control Panel.
Click the button.
In the drop-down, select the log file that corresponds to the failed backup. The log files are identified by their backup origin and numeric backup ID — the same ID shown in the Manage Backups page and in the View Log page.
Click . ALICE will read the log and present its findings.
Only run ALICE on failed backups and only when the Log Level in the Configuration page was set to All Information and Debug at the time the backup was taken. Running ALICE on a successful backup or on a log captured at a lower log level will produce misleading results that are of no diagnostic value.
ALICE checks for a library of known failure patterns and error messages. When it recognises a pattern it explains the likely cause and suggests a remedy. When the failure is outside its knowledge base it will tell you that it cannot determine the cause, in which case you should download the raw log file and submit it with a support ticket.
ALICE is a heuristic tool. Its suggestions are a starting point for troubleshooting, not a guaranteed diagnosis. Always verify the suggested remedy on your site before concluding that the problem is solved.
