The updates released to Akeeba Backup for Joomla!, Akeeba Backup for WordPress and Akeeba Solo in the second half of August 2017 are security updates. These versions fix a number of security issues reported by Aram Nap of Securify, as well as another security issue we have detected ourselves. None of these issues has been used to hack any sites. None of these issues can be used to remotely hack / take control of your site.

A small minority of Joomla! sites which use the MijoShop extension may experience a PHP Fatal Error, white page or Internal Server Error 500 when trying to access the site's administrator backend after installing Akeeba Backup 5.5.0. Joomla! 3.7.0 has a bug which prevents CLI scripts from executing correctly. We have identified the root cause of this issue and we are providing a workaround - even though Joomla's production team has acknowledged the issue and will fix it eventually. We recommend all users of the Professional versions of Akeeba Backup for Joomla, Admin Tools and Akeeba Ticket System to upgrade immediately.

The downside of having popular software is that we frequently get bogus security reports. Typically it's someone running an automated vulnerability scanner while lacking the technical skills to understand the report and put it in perspective.
