EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Ever since I have upgraded the Akeeba backup it has been failing.

Please see the screen shot and the attached file

regards

Yamin

I can see the backup is getting stuck on the file /media/RadicalViews.2013-08-01.978.sql.gz. How big is that file? Is it necessary for your backup?

Do you have enough disk space available? Does your host have a maximum on the size of a file you can create on your account?

Hi

Sorry, you are right.

I will get rid of that rubbish.

I have a flu, my mind is not working fully.

Hi

Yes the backup worked now.

Please remind me again about downloading. If I recall you are advised to do a binary download instead of downloading from within the akeebabackup control panel.

Is that still the case?

Yes, FTP is more reliable for moving files, especially large files, than HTTP.

HI

OK, thanks,

Do you know how I can test a restore of my backup? I have never done it before.

I am happy for this be opened as a separate ticket.

Regards

Usually you can set up a web server on your local computer. There are packages around (WAMP, MAMP, LAMP, XAMP depending on your environment) that include all the parts you need.

I have mine set up in a Virtual Box.

Note that there are differences between a commercial host environment and a local environment, so some adjustments to the site are usually needed. If you have any problems, just let us know, that's what we're here for.

You can also set up the test site on your commercial server, but there are tricky parts to that. We need some more discussion if you want to go that route. You can't mess up your live site if you test restore on a local server.

You can find a video of the steps under the Video menu item above.

HI

I only have a Windows 7 desktop and I do a have a CPanel server too for about a month.

So can I used either and do you have some documents to do a restore test. As you know backup is good as the restore.

WAMP (Windows+Apache+MySQL+PHP) and XAMPP will both work on Windows. Both would be single packages that will install Apache, MySQL and PHP for you. Unfortunately, installing a local server environment is beyond what we can do in Akeeba support. There would be instructions and help available from both package websites.

We do have a series of videos about using Akeeba Backup. They cover backup, restore and some advanced topics like automation. You can find them on the Videos menu link above.
