When starting kickstart.php, does it overwrite all files of an existing website with the new archive files?

Or has I to erase prior the old files on the server?

It overwrites files if they already exist, but it does not delete files (i.e. if a file exists on the site, but not the backup archive, it is NOT deleted).

If you are going to replace a Joomla 3 site with a Joomla 4 site you need to delete at least the folders administrator, bin, cache, cli, components, includes, language, layouts, libraries, media, modules, plugins, templates, and tmp.
