When logged in as an administrator and not as a superuser and I want to backup the system using akkeba backup I receive the following error:
An error has occurred.
403 You don't have permission to access this. Please contact a website administrator if this is incorrect.

Taking and downloading a backup of a site gives you an exact copy of the entire site and all of its contents. Essentially, by doing that it is as if you are a Super User — since you can restore the site locally and assume Super User permissions.

The default permissions for the Administrator group allow you to access the Akeeba Backup interface (Access Administration Interface) but not do anything else.

You need to have a Super User edit the permissions of Akeeba Backup (Components, Akeeba Backup for Joomla, Control Panel, Options, Permissions) and give the Administrator group the required privileges. For example, you can grant the Backup permissions to take backups, Configure to configure the backup (and access any features which can modify your site, e.g. restoration), Download to download the backup archive, and Configure ACL & Options to be able to change the configuration in the Options page.
