EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Sorry, I cannot do this, for the following reason:

I need to install Akeeba Backup to a new "backup" site that does not contain a working Joomla anymore, because of a dumb thing I did.  I had hoped to be able to use Akeeba Backup to restore the site from an existing backup, but your documentation is unclear to me, since it only seems to describe using Akeeba Backup on sites that already contain a running Joomla site.

Am I correct that I could

  • manually put some kind of vanilla Joomla installation on this site,
  • then install Akeeba Backup into this site,
  • and then use Akeeba Backup to restore the site I had lots, from an existing backup?

Please advise.  Thanks in advance for your help!

This is unnecessarily complicated, actually. It can be much simpler than that. You just upload the backup archives and Kickstart.

Please watch this video tutorial which demonstrates this: https://www.akeeba.com/videos/1212-akeeba-backup/1618-abtc04-restore-site-new-server.html
