Couldn't find an answer about remote back-ups with FTP, so I hope to find some new inspiration here. I receive this warning: "Akeeba Backup was able to connect to your server, but it could not upload a test file. Backup upload could fail."

This is my situation:

  • Joomla 5.3.3 site with Akeeba Pro.
  • Local Qnap NAS at home. (QuFTP is installed)
  • I use Passive FTP.
  • Back-up file is just 100MB.
  • Local Akeeba back-ups ARE made and stored on my NAS in a specific folder (great!).
  • Akeeba back-ups outside my home are made but are NOT stored on my NAS. I get the warning.

Does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks!

Most likely you are using the wrong Initial Directory.

That said, using FTP is not a great idea. It's a legacy protocol with no security. Why don't you use SFTP instead? It's both easier to set up and more secure.
