EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Ah ha, I found out the erroneous backups.  Could this be due to the backup that is automatically taken prior to a Joomla update not doing any post processing?

Therefore, leaving backups on my local that I didn't expect?

I guess you're talking about this: https://www.akeeba.com/support/akeeba-backup/42221-delete-backup-from-local-after-successfully-moving-to-remove.html

I cannot possibly tell you. All backups generate a log file. Have you looked at the post-processing like I told you? Which post-processing engine is it using? Does it report any errors uploading?

Yes, I looked at that.  The post-processing is set to delete, and it does.  I tested that, which is why I was confused about finding backups on my server.

But I noticed when I do a Joomla update, it automatically does a backup, but it doesn't do post-processing.  Is it possible that it uses the default profile instead of my second profile, which has the S3 backup associated with it?

So then I guess the question is, could we set the profile for that somewhere?  It doesn't look like it's doing the post-processing when that backup occurs, as there's no delay that I usually see from it uploading the file.  Also, I'm not even sure I know a post-processing progress bar.

I was talking about the post-processing engine. If it's logged as "none" then there is no remote backup storage set up, i.e. any remote quotas would not be applied. That's in the log file. If you read my reply to your other ticket you'll see I am asking you to look for it. The log file also tells you which backup profile you're using at any given time. This information is also shown in the Manage Backups page.

In any case, you can of course see and change the backup profile being used for the backups taken before you update your site by changing the configuration of the "System - Backup on update" plugin. It's documented in https://www.akeeba.com/documentation/akeeba-backup-joomla/backuponupdate-plugin.html. The default is to use, well, the default backup profile (#1).

Ah ha!  That's fantastic.  Thanks a million.  Case closed.
