My goal is to backup the current outdated site to my Joomla site on the Siteground server so that I can update everything and make sure it's working before moving it back to the active site.  I've succeeded in installing the version of backup and creating the backup files, but I can't get kickstart to run.  I'm using Filezilla, and I've done as suggested for this error by changing the file transfer to binary. This has not resolved the problems I'm having.

The site the backup is from is on PHPwebhosting.com using PHP 7.3.33 and Joomla 3.10.

The site I'm trying to restore it to is Siteground with PHP 8.4.20

Thanks,

If you are still getting this error it means that you did not, in fact, upload the file in Binary transfer mode – or that something wrong happened when extracting the ZIP file.

Try downloading Kickstart's ZIP file again. Upload it to SiteGround. Use the file manager they provide to extract it.

Alternatively, try downloading Kickstart's ZIP file again. Then extract it locally using your operating system's file manager. DO NOT try to edit the .php file. Then, use SFTP to upload the file (e.g. using WinSCP on Windows). SFTP only uses binary transfer and it's far more secure than plain FTP.

Also read https://www.akeeba.com/documentation/akeeba-kickstart-documentation/ch02s04.html for more information on what's going on and why these suggestions work.

Thanks Nicholas.

I managed to get Kickstart to work, but still need to get the database part working.  I'll open a new ticket if I can't get it worked out.
