EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 10MiB, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

When trying to make a backup, I get this message: Akeeba\Engine\Archiver\Base:: Installer package /home/wouter1q/domains/wouterturkenburg.nl/public_html/administrator/components/com_akeebabackup/installers/brs.jpa does not exist! Please inform me what to do. Kind regards, Walter

This means you are missing a file from your site, namely administrator/components/com_akeebabackup/installers/brs.jpa. This file most definitely does exist in the packages we ship. Open our package ZIP file, then extract the com_akeebabackup.zip file you see in it. Look in the extracted directory backend/installers. As you see, the file is there. So, it's not an error on our part.

This means there are two possibilities here.

Either Joomla didn't copy this file, or something/someone else deleted it after installing the extension.

Try installing the Akeeba Backup package (pkg_akeebabackup-*.zip) twice in a row, without uninstalling it before or in between. This addresses the "Joomla didn't copy this file" problem.

If the problem happens again before you install the next update to our software, something/someone else deleted that file. The usual suspect is a host-provided "anti-malware" / "security" scanner which might not recognize the .jpa extension of the file and delete it. I've also seen some hosts which deliberately delete .jpa files because they do not want their clients to have backups they control (it gives clients negotiating power; your site is no longer at the mercy of the host).

Thank you for your swift response and your explanation. I now better know how things work.
I installed the Akeeba Backup package twice, and now it works.
Not only that, but I was afraid that I had misconfigured the Akeeba Admin Tools, but luckily this is not the case.
I was definitely not the host Vimexx because on other sites it all works fine.
Who or what did it, we will probably never know.
Best regards, Walter

Just keep an eye out. Most hosts use some kind of security scanner, e.g. Immunify360. Every so often these get confused and start doing weird things which break random extensions. I know for I have explicitly asked my host to disable that crap on my production sites. I still have it enabled on my test sites hosted with them so I can experience the breakage first hand, report it to them, have them report it to upstream (Immunify360) and get it fixed for all its users across all hosts (since it runs on a common cloud for all hosts using that service). Yay, fun... :(
