I am restoring a pre-6.1.4 version of a website (probably 6.1.1) from 03.10.26 on a remote sub-domain for testing purposes. I have extracted the files but now Akeeba tells me that "PHP 8.3.35 on your server should have the display_errors PHP settings set to 0 to prevent unimportant PHP messages (deprecation notices, notices, and warnings) from being displayed in the output, as this could have security and functional implications depending on your site's configuration. Ask your host to help with this."

On checking my PHP settings in cPanel, I can see that the tick box for 'display_errors' is not ticked. Neither can I find a php.ini file.

What do I need to do? Or should I just ignore it?

Check whether you have a .user.ini file. Do note the dot in front of the name; that makes it a hidden file, therefore you need to tell your file manager / (S)FTP client to show hidden files. Does it have a display_errors line in there?

Alternatively, your configuration.php file may have an $error_reporting line set to anything other than 'none'.

Either way, you can go on with the restoration and set $error_reporting to 'none' post-restoration to prevent unimportant PHP notices and warnings from reaching the output.

Thank you. There is no .user.ini file and the configuration.php file is set to 'none', so I am somewhat stumped.

I've continued with the restoration as this will be set to no index, no follow and is just for testing.

However, having done so, I've discovered that this is not Joomla 6 but 5.4.3. Does that make a difference?

Not really, no. I would say just go ahead with the restoration. The display_errors PHP setting is largely irrelevant since Joomla can control it with its Error Reporting configuration which ultimately controls both PHP's display_errors and PHP's error_reporting, overriding the system defaults. The check is left in place just for the odd case where someone leaves that setting to Default which is absolutely not recommended for at least the past 16 years.
