I used extract wizard earlier this morning and it worked fine. My version was 3.0.4 and after extracting a popup message said there was a newer version 3.0.6. I upgraded automatically and now when i try to extract i get an error saying Could not create Installation / folder.

I though maybe extract wizard only works with backups with latest versions of akeeba ??

So I upgraded from 3.1.5 akeeba pro to latest, backed up and tried to extract with same message.

I have also tried with another backup from a different site and this too isnt working?

Is this a bug with the extract wizard? Is there anyway i can revert back to 3.0.4 as need to use it ASAP

PS - I Use a MAC

Thankss

More Information!

I have just uninstalled the auto updated version 3.0.6 and re installed with a fresh copy downloaded direct from the akeeba site.
This too is producing the same error.

??

This is a permissions issue. Changing the eXtract Wizard version won't make any difference. Just try to extract the archive in a directory inside your Documents directory and then copy your files where you want them to be.

hi nicholas,

Thanks for your reply.

I just tried this and it still wont extract. You do mean for me to move the jpa files to within the documents folder under my username in my mac ??

If so did this and get the same error - ive included a screen shot.

Thanks

Andy

Yes, this is what I meant. That's strange. This is exactly what I tried here and it worked. OK, let's try a workaround. Try extracting to a shorter folder name, i.e. instead of the site-blahblahblah directory, extract to a directory named "test". I suspect that the extraction issue may have something to do with the path length.

If that doesn't help and you have MAMP set up on your Mac, you can always use eXtract Wizard to extract the JPA archive locally.

Edit: Of course, I meant: If that doesn't help and you have MAMP set up on your Mac, you can always use Kickstart to extract the JPA archive locally.

Hi Nicholas,

Ive tried the smaller file name for the extraction files.

I do have MAMP installed so I'll have to use the workaround for now?

Odd that it was working fine with 3.0.4, i extracted a couple of backups this morning.

Yes, try that workaround for now. I will look into that again. I doesn't seem possible to replicate this on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. Out of curiosity, which version of Akeeba Backup produced the archive and which version of PHP was it running on?

PHP was 5.2.9 and the back up was from 3.1.5 and 3.2.4b

I too use OSX 10.6.6

I have verified and repaired my disk permissions to see if that helped and it hasn't.

Also just noticed new version 3.0.7, i have removed 3.0.6 and installed 3.0.7 and still getting the same problems?

I solved the issue by doing the following:

1. Create folder into which I will extract the files;
2. Using Get Info, I changed the 'anybody' permissions in the newly created folder from Read only to Read Write.

Ran extract - worked perfectly.

Thank you for your feedback! As I've said in numerous threads, extraction problems with eXtract Wizard are usually attributed to such permission issues. Especially if you try to extract directly to a local web root (e.g. in a MAMP webroot directory) the ownership in there doesn't allow you to extract files directly. Finder works around this limitation by figuring out that you are the only user of the system and the Applications directories are within your reach. It seems to not ask you for confirmation, instead it proceeds with copying the files, making identifying the permissions problem very hard.
