Hi All,

I have a quick question for those who have experience with ABPro and Amazon S3. In the documentation, it states "... we STRONGLY suggest using a part size for archive splitting of 2000Mb. This is required to work around a PHP limitation which causes extraction to fail if the file size is over roughly 2Gb." However, the user interface of ABPro, has a note of "Remember to set a split archive size of 2-30Mb or you risk backup failure due to timeouts!" I'm a little confused about this. Does this mean that it is recommended to use a split archive of 2-30Mb unless the entire archive may be over 2Gb?

Also, is there a way to do an incremental backup of files and the database? I only see options to do files only incrementally.

Thanks!

Matt

Hm... You are right. Actually, none of them is very accurate as long as you're using Akeeba Backup 3.2.b4. The 3.2 branch is using Amazon S3's multipart upload feature, so any file up to 2Gb can be uploaded.

If that fails, the actual recommendations are like that:
- Command line CRON backups (using backup.php): Part size around 200Mb.
- Other backup methods, including back-end backup: Part size os 2-30Mb, depending on the connection speed between your host and Amazon S3

You can always start with a high value, e.g. 200Mb. If you see a timeout error during transferring the files to S3, start lowering it until you hit the sweet spot. That said, on most sites using Akeeba Backup 3.2 you can leave the part size to somewhere around 2000Mb without noticing any issues.

Thanks Nicholas! 200Mb seems to work great (even from a cheap 1and1 shared server).

Best,
