Description of my issue:

Just a "can it be done?" question: I have a Joomla 1.6 site I've been playing with on a GoDaddy account (since GoDaddy, by default, install joomla 1.6).

I really don't care for 1.6 yet due to it having much more than I need as far as complexity. So, can I create a Joomla 1.5 site on a test box, back it up, copy the backup to the 1.6 site, then restore the 1.5 backup to create a 1.5 site using the restore function in Akeebabackup?

Or must I uninstall the Joomla 1.6 site then copy the backup and use Kickstart to restore? Thank you.

No. The database and file structure of 1.6 and 1.5 are vastly different. You have to use a tool like jUpgrade to perform this kind of migration. Do note that the migration may be lossy and not all of your extensions might work on Joomla! 1.6. And as I always say...

WARNING: MIGRATING FROM JOOMLA! 1.5 TO 1.6 IS NOT A SIMPLE UPGRADE LIKE GOING FROM 1.5.20 TO 1.5.23. IT REQUIRES A PARTIAL REBUILD OF YOUR SITE. MOREOVER, MOVING FROM 1.6 TO 1.5 IS NOT POSSIBLE.
