Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the Troubleshooting Wizard before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.2.1
PHP version: 5.2.8
MySQL version: 5.0.92
Host: Centos 5 with WHM/cPanel
Akeeba Backup Professional version: 3.2.2
(backup taken before I paid for Professionel!!)
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Dont know where to find the backup log file...

Description of my issue:

I get error:
Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/tmp/sess_8ef87fea8913156cbd4dc66df6188238, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/ihsnu/public_html/installation/includes/storage.php on line 208

and
Warning: Unknown: open(/tmp/sess_8ef87fea8913156cbd4dc66df6188238, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/tmp) in Unknown on line 0

I tried to change the /tmp (writable) after and before running Kickstart.php, but with no success.

If I reload the screen without modifying /tmp or publict_html/installation I get the same errors.

If I reload the screen after modifying public_html/installation I get error:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

If I modify the rights of /includes/ or storage.php I get the same errors (ie no success).

If I click on Next anyway, I get error: Your session write path and the installation directory are not writable. One of them must be writable for the installation to continue.

I am running on a newly created account, ihs.nu, (from scratch)

Any suggestions deeply appreciated!!

Can you they just clicking on Next despite the error messages? Does that reload the page? If it does, does clicking on the Next button again proceeds with the restoration?

Thanks for your reply,

When I tried to click on next on the page with the database connection parameters I got errors. And followed the description I found on the Unorthodox: the emergency restoration procedure

I now have a site which works if I connect to www.ihs.nu/index.php
but if I connect to www.ihs.nu I get the message which the server sends regarding sites with no index.html page. Don´t know why...

Ooops... After saving this reply and refetching my site it now works!! Must be cached data I suppose.

Thanks a lot for help!

Based on your previous messages and having tried the sites without having been there before, I believe you are experiencing a caching issue in your browser. I was able to load both links and see the same site. Your browser will sometimes see the addresses differently and cache them differently.

I recommend closing the browser and reopening the initial page. If that does not work, try clearing the browser cache. and checking again.

Did you migrate this from another host or are you just restoring this site from backup?

Thanks for you reply. Yes, I also think it was a caching issue, even though I used two browser to avoid this problem, obviously both browswer hade cached a previous page.

I moved my site from a vendor to a new cloud-based VPS.

The reason I inquired about the moving the host is that I have seen issues happen with accessing a site with www and without www in front of the domain when the site had just recently moved from another host.

Since you seem to have gotten it resolved, that did not seem to be the case here as it was with or withou index.php and that would not likely be a DNS issue.

the www. messed me up the first time too.
