Description of my issue:
I just want to say that I'm new to joomla and web developing.

Ok here goes! I finish creating a joomla website on my local computer via XAMPP. Then when I tried to upload it to my domain I uploaded all the folders to my server and exported my database from my localhost but I cant import it to my server. I got an Error saying "CREATE DATABASE..... #1044 - Access denied for user...." I tried deleting that line as noted on other forums via dreameaver but that didnt work either. I also see a "No Privilege" on my domain cpanel phpMyadmin database but I have no idea on how to get around this.

Anyway so that way didnt work so I downloaded akeeba backup and kickstart and followed both of the doc that came with it. I successfully created a backup jpa. via joomla control panel. File (label: site-localhost-20110817-233840.jpa). So then I upload the backup jpa. and the kickstart php. to my server root directory but when I try to go to my site (www.mysite.com/kickstart.php) I get a blank screen. I remember reading one of your articles about maybe its because my phpMyAdmin on my server is out of date (phpMyAdmin -2.11.9.5, MySQL client version: 5.0.83). If this is the case then how can I work around this?

Well after another unsuccessful attempt I tried to place the backup and kicker to my local directory to test if it works there but got this message:

http://localhost/joomla15/administrator/
Access forbidden!
You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

FYI: My backup folder (admininstrator>components>com_akeeba>backup) only has one .jpa, the log, and a kickstart.php… It does not have the .htaccess or a index.html in it like what I see on the quickstartguide.pdf. I dont know if that has anything to do with it. Sorry for being such a newbie!

Please advice!

You are mixing up a lot of issues in a single post. Instead of trying to write a huge essay which will be mostly unhelpful and would deride our conversation to minute details, let's try solving the major issue: restoring on your live server.

First remove all files and folders you have already uploaded on the server. Really, all of them. You also have to remove your .htaccess file. Since dot-files (files whose name starts with a dot) are the Linux equivalent of hidden files, ergo invisible in FTP, use your hosting control panel's file manager to remove any .htaccess file from your site's root. If you're unsure how to do that (or if you did that successfully), please ask your host.

After doing this necessary step, it's time for the second mandatory step: creating a database. Most likely your host has already created a database for you. In this case, just note down its connection details (hostname, database name, username, password). If unsure or if there is no database and you need to create one, please ask your host on the proper way to retrieve this information and/or create a new database.

Next up, upload your .jpa backup archive and kickstart.php to your host using FTP in binary transfer mode (you can configure FileZilla to do that as per the third video tutorial). Then, access Kickstart as http://www.yoursite.com/kickstart.php. If you do not see Kickstart's page, please ask your host to check that you have PHP 5.2 or 5.3 installed and enabled by default on your account (or enable it by default if it isn't already - that's fairly common). If that still doesn't help, we'll need the last 10 lines of your server error log. Once more, if you are not sure where to retrieve that bit of information, ask your host (don't worry, hosts routinely receive such questions and they won't feel bothered by them).

The rest of the process is really what you see in the fourth video tutorial, so I won't reiterate here.

If you get stuck at any of the above points, please let me know which steps you have carried so far and why you got stuck (if you get an error message either copy & paste it here or take a screenshot and attach it to your next post) so that I can help you!

Hi Nicholas, Thank you for the fast response.

Everything works now!!!! thank you so much!

I'd called my hosting company so many times but just didn't know the right question to ask but you surely helped me with that and now my site is finally up and running. I love your software and thank you for your support!
