Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the forum before posting? Yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Joomla! version: 1.5.23
PHP version: 5.3.4
MySQL version: 5.1.53
Host: localhost
Akeeba Backup version: 3.3.3

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue.

Description of my issue:
I am trying to move a website to a local host so I can test the migration from joomla 1.5 to 1.6. I create the backup using the default settings and ftp it to my local machine and then use kickstart script to run the restoration on the new server.

The install seems to go smoothly, database is updated, files are all extracted, installation files are removed, etc...

however when I try an go to either the front end or the back end i get a 500 server error?

I am sure I am missing something very simple here but I cannot seem to figure it out.

Hi!

There are quite a few things which could wrong and they all have to do with the differences in server configuration between the source and the target server. The most common issue is that pre-packaged local servers come with Apache's mod_rewrite disabled, which means that Joomla!'s default .htaccess (mandatory for SEF URLs) causes a 500 Internal Server Error or a blank page.

I have compiled a step-by-step troubleshouting guide which covers all of the common post-restoration issues. It can be found at https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/troubleshooter/prbasicts.html. I suggest reading it and following its instructions to identify and fix the issue. If you get stuck somewhere, don't hesitate to post back so that I can further assist you!
